At Toronto Trauma Therapy, we unpack and understand trauma, so people can make choices that feel more aligned with their values and who they want to be. We help people reintegrate their past into their current lives so they can make sense of what happened and who they are today. We recognize the impact of fear, shame, and guilt and help people understand how these influence their decision-making.

Our Mission
Healing happens when people are given the space to show up as their full, authentic selves. Our mission is to provide compassionate, trauma-informed care that honours each person’s unique story, identity, and lived experience. We are committed to creating a therapeutic environment where clients feel seen, respected, and supported as they navigate healing, growth, and meaningful change.
We recognize that trauma does not occur in isolation and is often shaped by systems, relationships, culture, and experiences of marginalization. Our approach is grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and respect, helping clients reconnect with their strengths and move toward a life that feels more aligned with who they truly are. Trauma-informed, gender-affirming, and culturally responsive environments are the foundations of our practice.
Our Values
Inclusivity
We welcome people of all identities, backgrounds, cultures, abilities, relationship structures, sexual orientations, and gender identities. We are committed to providing 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming care and fostering a space where diversity is celebrated rather than simply accommodated. Inclusive, anti-oppressive, and identity-affirming approaches are widely recognized as important elements of equitable mental health care.
Authenticity
Healing begins when there is space to be real. We value honesty, vulnerability, and genuine human connection. We believe therapy should be a place where masks can come off and where clients are free to explore who they are without fear of judgment.
Trauma-Informed Care
We understand the lasting impact trauma can have on the mind, body, relationships, and sense of self. Our work is grounded in safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment, recognizing the resilience that exists within every person.
Equity and Social Justice
We acknowledge that mental health is influenced by social, cultural, and systemic factors. We strive to create a space that is anti-oppressive, culturally responsive, and informed by humility, recognizing the unique experiences of marginalized communities.
Human Connection
We believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of the healing process. Through warmth, compassion, and collaboration, we aim to build relationships that foster trust, growth, and lasting change.
Empowerment
We believe clients are the experts in their own lives. Our role is not to tell people who they should be, but to support them in reconnecting with their strengths, values, and capacity for healing.

In Memory
Gini Bechard (1977-2023)
Co-founder of Toronto Trauma Therapy
Toronto Trauma Therapy is a space where so many can find more than healing and care, and it was a dream Gini brought to life. Through Toronto Trauma Therapy, Gini used her talent to create a space where true change can happen through learning, growth, and support. In 2023, Gini passed away from complications of an autoimmune condition. The space Gini held for so many will be cherished forever, and we are grateful that her vision and legacy will live on through Toronto Trauma Therapy. You will be missed, Gini!
